What PIP is worth in 2026/27.
PIP has two parts, daily living and mobility, each paid at a standard or an enhanced rate. You can get one, both or neither.
| Part | Rate | Weekly | Every 4 weeks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daily living | Standard · 8 to 11 points | £76.70 | £306.80 |
| Daily living | Enhanced · 12 points or more | £114.60 | £458.40 |
| Mobility | Standard · 8 to 11 points | £30.30 | £121.20 |
| Mobility | Enhanced · 12 points or more | £80.00 | £320.00 |
PIP is tax-free and paid on top of most other benefits. Rates from April 2026, per GOV.UK.
The 6 rules for claiming PIP.
You need to meet all six. The checker above tests each one.
You’re 16 or over
And under State Pension age when you first claim. If you already get PIP, it carries on after State Pension age.
You live in England, Wales or Northern Ireland
In Scotland you claim Adult Disability Payment instead. Northern Ireland claims go to the Department for Communities.
You have a health condition or disability
Physical or mental. There’s no list of qualifying conditions and you don’t need a diagnosis.
It makes daily life or getting around harder
The DWP scores 12 activities. You need 8 points for the standard rate and 12 for the enhanced rate, in daily living, mobility or both.
It will last at least 12 months
At least 3 months before you claim and 9 months after. If you may have 12 months or less to live, this rule doesn’t apply.
You’ve lived in Great Britain for 2 of the last 3 years
Unless you’re in the armed forces (or family of someone who is), a refugee, have humanitarian protection, or are nearing the end of life.

Special rules on GOV.UKDon’t rule yourself out.
Thousands of people who qualify for PIP never claim it. These are the usual reasons, and why they’re wrong.
“I work, so I can’t get PIP.”
You can work full or part time and still get PIP. Your job and hours don’t count.
“I have savings, so I won’t qualify.”
PIP isn’t means-tested. Income and savings make no difference at all.
“I don’t have a diagnosis.”
You don’t need one. The DWP looks at how your condition affects you, not what it’s called.
“I’m not disabled enough.”
If you struggle on more than half of days, describe those days. Moderate difficulties can still score enough points.
“I was turned down before.”
You can challenge a refusal, and around two in three PIP appeals that reach a tribunal are won. Get a free case review to see how yours would be argued.

Is PIP changing?
Not yet. The proposed ‘4-point rule’ was dropped in July 2025, so nothing changes in November 2026. The Timms Review of PIP is due to make recommendations in late autumn 2026. Today’s rules apply to every claim until any new law is passed.

PIP eligibility questions answered.
Yes. PIP is not linked to work. You can work full time, part time or be self-employed and still get it, because it’s based on how your condition affects you, not on your income.
No. Your income, savings and your partner’s income don’t affect PIP. It’s paid on top of most other benefits, including Universal Credit, ESA and Carer’s Allowance.
The difficulties must last at least 12 months in total: for 3 months before you claim and be expected to continue for at least 9 months after. If you may have 12 months or less to live, special rules mean this doesn’t apply.
Not usually as a new claim. You can if you’ve had PIP or Adult Disability Payment in the last 12 months. Otherwise, Attendance Allowance is the benefit to claim. If you already get PIP, it carries on.
No. PIP has been replaced in Scotland by Adult Disability Payment, run by Social Security Scotland. It uses the same activities and points.
Not yet. The proposed ‘4-point rule’ was dropped from the law in July 2025, so nothing changes in November 2026. The Timms Review of PIP is due to make recommendations in late autumn 2026, and any changes would need new laws first.
8 points for the standard rate and 12 points for the enhanced rate. Daily living and mobility are scored separately, so you can get one, both or neither.
You have one month from the date on your decision letter to ask for a mandatory reconsideration. If that fails, you can appeal to an independent tribunal, where around two in three PIP appeals are won.
