A review checks whether your award is still right. It can stay the same, go up, go down or stop.

Getting it right

Mistakes to avoid.

Writing ‘no change’

Even if nothing has changed, explain your needs again. The decision maker may not have your old form in front of them.

Only describing good days

Describe a typical week, including bad days and how often they happen.

Leaving out new help

If someone now prompts, reminds or helps you, say who, what and how often.

Missing the deadline

If you need more time, ask the DWP before the deadline. If it isn’t returned, PIP can stop.

Questions

PIP review questions answered.

Usually one month from the date on the letter. If you need more time, ask the DWP before the deadline. If you don’t send it back, your PIP can be stopped.

Yes. A review can keep your award the same, increase it, reduce it or stop it, depending on how your needs are now.

Yes. If your needs have increased since your last award, describe the changes and send evidence. You can also report a change at any time.

Explain your needs again for each activity, rather than just ticking ‘no change’. Say why things are still the same, with examples.

Sometimes. The DWP can decide from your form and evidence, but many reviews include a phone, video or face-to-face assessment.

Anything recent that shows how your condition affects you: letters from your GP or specialist, care plans, therapy reports, or a diary.

It’s similar, but the AR1 asks what has changed since your last award, activity by activity.

No. It’s a guide based on your answers. The DWP decides the outcome.
