ADP and PIP

How ADP differs from PIP.

Same points, different body

ADP is run by Social Security Scotland, not the DWP. It uses the same activities, descriptors and points as PIP.

No assessment by default

Most decisions are made from your application and supporting information. A consultation is only arranged if more is needed.

42 days to challenge

You have 42 days to ask for a re-determination, and 31 days from the re-determination to appeal to the tribunal.

Short-Term Assistance

If your award is reduced or stopped and you challenge it, you can ask for Short-Term Assistance to keep being paid while it’s looked at again.

Questions

ADP points questions answered.

8 points for the standard rate and 12 points for the enhanced rate, scored separately for daily living and mobility. You can get one part, both or neither.

Daily living is £76.70 a week (standard) or £114.60 (enhanced). Mobility is £30.30 (standard) or £80.00 (enhanced). The most you can get is £194.60 a week.

It replaced PIP in Scotland and uses the same activities, descriptors, points and rates. It’s run by Social Security Scotland, which usually decides without a face-to-face assessment.

42 days from the date you’re told the decision to ask for a re-determination. If that doesn’t change it, 31 days from the re-determination to appeal to the tribunal.

If your award has been reduced or stopped, you can ask for Short-Term Assistance while your re-determination or appeal is decided.

Yes. A descriptor applies if it fits you on more than 50% of days. You must also be able to do an activity reliably: safely, to an acceptable standard, repeatedly and in a reasonable time.

No. Your income, savings and whether you work don’t affect it, and it’s tax-free.

No. It shows how the points add up for the descriptors you pick. Social Security Scotland decides your award.
