  • No pressure. No timers, no made-up deadlines.
  • Yours to keep. The preview is yours, whatever you decide.
Not sure yet?

Found fit for work? You don’t have to decide blind.

Most people found fit for work don’t know whether their case is worth challenging. The free preview answers that, using what you tell us about your decision and your health.

It isn’t a leaflet. It’s about you: your points, the LCWRA group, your deadline, and the activity you struggle with most, argued the way we argue it in a full letter. Then you decide.

Deadlines still apply. You normally have one calendar month from your decision letter to ask for a Mandatory Reconsideration. Your preview shows your date.

What you’ll find out

Four things your preview tells you about your case.

Written for you, from what you tell us. Not a template.

01

Where you stand on points

Your points shown against the 15 needed for limited capability for work, and what the LCWRA group needs instead, so you can see the gap.

02

Your deadline, in plain sight

The date your request must reach the DWP, worked out from your letter, with what to do if it has already passed.

03

Your hardest activity, argued

The descriptor we would argue for, why it fits, the majority-of-the-time rule from regulation 40(4), and what to be ready to say.

04

What the decision probably missed

All seventeen activities checked, the routes to the LCWRA group, and the errors in your decision we would challenge first.

The difference it makes

The same question. Two very different answers.

Your preview argues your hardest activity the way your full letter would. Here’s the kind of difference that makes.

Mobilising: “How far can you walk before you need to stop?”

The answer most people give

“I can walk, but slowly.”

What the assessor hears: you can walk. That usually means no points for this activity.

How your preview argues it

“About 50 metres, then the pain in my hips makes me stop. I can’t do it again for an hour, so I couldn’t do it repeatedly through a day.”

A distance, what happens, and whether you could do it again: what the descriptors measure.

Know your group

Fit for work, LCW or LCWRA: what each means.

The group you’re put in decides your work requirements and, for most people, whether Universal Credit pays anything extra.

What did your WCA decision say?

Your next step: a mandatory reconsideration.

The preview shows where you stand against the 15 points and the LCWRA descriptors. If you go ahead, the WCA reconsideration letter is £49.

Whichever it is, the free preview is the right first step.

“Descriptor 16c would add 6 points.”
“What the decision seems to have missed.”

  • Your situation, as we understand it — your benefit, your conditions, your decision and the points you were given, in plain English.
  • Where you stand on points — your points against the 15 for limited capability for work, and what the LCWRA group needs instead.
  • Your deadline — the date your request must reach the DWP, worked out from your decision letter.
  • Your hardest activity, argued in full — the descriptor we would argue for, why it fits, the majority-of-the-time rule, what the decision missed and what to be ready to say.
  • All seventeen activities checked — which ones are worth looking at, and the errors in your decision we would challenge first.
  • The group where the money is — what the LCWRA group and the substantial risk rule mean for your case.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about the free WCA preview.

If your question isn’t covered, email us at support@pipappeal.org.uk and we’ll reply same day.

01 · The free preview

Yes. The checkout total is £0 and there are no card details to enter. There’s nothing to cancel and no obligation to buy.

Seven pages about your case: your situation, where you stand on points and what the LCWRA group needs, your deadline, your hardest activity argued in full, all seventeen activities checked, and the errors in your decision we would challenge first.

No. The preview is written to you, not to the DWP. It’s our opinion of your case based on what you tell us. The full letter is the one you send, written in your voice and signed by you.

Yes. The preview works if you were found fit for work, put in the LCW group when you should be in LCWRA, or your Mandatory Reconsideration was turned down and you’re appealing to the tribunal. GOV.UK explains how to appeal a benefit decision.

Within 3 hours. The form takes a few minutes, and your preview arrives by email.

02 · After your preview

We read your documents, including your assessment report, and argue every activity that applies. We also argue the LCWRA group and the substantial risk rule in the alternative, with the case law, because the form and the assessment never ask about them. It’s written in your voice, ready to send, as a PDF and a Word document. Free revisions are included.

£49 flat, for a Mandatory Reconsideration letter or a tribunal submission. We never take a percentage of your backpay.

You can still ask. A late Mandatory Reconsideration can be accepted up to 13 months after the decision if you explain why it’s late, and the full letter includes that explanation. Citizens Advice can also help with deadlines.

Yes. We only use what you tell us to write your preview, and we never share it. Read our privacy policy.

Universal Credit carries on while you challenge, but without the health element. New Style ESA stops after a fit for work decision, but can be paid again at the assessment rate once your appeal is registered with the tribunal, as long as you keep sending fit notes. Citizens Advice can check what applies to you.
